Mission Statement

ReBirth Arts Collective is a community-based performing arts company and educational organization that produces and creates transformational theatrical experiences that magnify, educate, mobilize, entertain, and raise conscience around current and historical social justice topics. As a cultural and educational organization we design and preserve a standard of Black art that includes sharing authentic and multi-layered stories through dance, music, and film. Since 2010, it has been our purpose to cultivate an ensemble of artists to create original works and provide programming to strengthen communities by delivering on the following:

  • Providing a space for artists and aspiring artists to refine and develop literary skills

  • Producing film that enhance cultural identity by telling narratives that promote and celebrate Black experience

  • Providing training, workshop, and educational opportunities in performance theatre

  • Building cultural communities by providing training, development, and performance opportunities to multi-ethnic and underserved artists

Organizational History

Since 2010 ReBirth Arts Collective has brought together a committed group of artists and educators who have dedicated their time and talent to enrich the lives of at-risk Bridgeport youth. Through our collective’s services, we have been able to:

  • Provide arts entertainment to over 6,000 people in the Greater Bridgeport community

  • Created and operated ReBirth Arts Intensive an arts & career training camp. Programming was housed on the campus of Housatonic Community College.

  • Collaborated with community organizations to provide community events, such as: open mic’s, one act plays, African dance lessons, improvisation shows, and galas

  • Write and direct 5 plays, 3 of which premiered in Housatonic Community College’s high tech performing arts center.

  • Facilitate over 30 creative writing workshops

  • Mentor students to matriculate to high school, community college, or a four year institution

With a fiscal sponsor in place, ReBirth Arts Collective is entering a new stage of organizational development. The Summer Arts Intensive is the first program we have launched and will grow over a period of 3-5 years. Our second, an after school Arts and Literacy program that will continue our summer work throughout the school year and reach further into the community, impacting a larger number of youth and families.
